Contact Poi have some of the most versatile range of style and technique then any other poi! Since the beginning when Ronan of Ireland first poked a hole in a stage ball the first of many new styles of poi spinning began. With his 100 mm stage balls he created a style that mixed the art of Contact Ball with that of Poi. While spinning the stage balls you can let go of the handles and allow the momentum of the ball to carry it in full contact around your body. As contact poi became popular people looked to other sizes of stage balls to see what else could come from them. The 90 mm balls seemed to create a perfect balance between contact poi and normal practice poi. In fact talented individuals finally ended the age long (several years at least) debate on juggling vs. flow arts as they juggled and spun the stage balls at the same time (sometimes even up to 5 poi at a time)! And finally many spinners just caught onto the cleanliness and beauty of a good 80 mm stage ball poi. They have great weight, not too big for spinning, and feel great as practice poi.
100 mm (Approximately 4"): Mainly used as contact poi. A little wide for regular and has quite the weight on the ends (200 gr or ~ 7 ounces)
90 mm (Approximately 3.5"): This is a great in between size for those wanting to play with the contact poi theories but don't want the clunkiness of the 100 mm stage ball
80 mm (Approximately 3"): These are great practice poi and have more of the feeling and dynamics of a fire monkey fist. The weight and width are very similiar to what many flow artists are comfortable with. 80 mm stage balls weigh approximately 150 grams or 5 ounces.
